I did research on a variety of different areas – most of them converged around gender, media and cultural studies. I was very interested in looking at the ways in which Swedish media (primarily films) represented women and gender-variant individuals, often in ways that sharply contrast with U.S. media depictions. Sweden is often considered one of the most nearly “gender-equal” societies in the world, so I wanted to examine the ways in which this reputation could be observed in their media as well. I also worked as an intern at the Stockholm International Film Festival, which gave me access to a number of films that I would not have been able to study otherwise.”
